The only time I have had experience with a Z-Drag was when I was in the Boundary Waters on a sixteen day trip with one friend. We were doing our daily hang of of our food bag (usually at least an hour operation) and one of us missed the throw and the little nylon throw bag full of rocks wrapped around a branch and we couldn't retrieve it. So my friend set up a Z-Drag and we pulled off the branch and rescued the bag and attached line.
