Hi folks,

Since Thursday Halifax Harbour is loaded with 100+ Tall Ships. It's
crazy, the next free hotel room is a 2 hr drive away from Halifax. I
don't want to know what will happen during the weekend with all
these people heading for the waterfront......
After touring the waterfront on Thursday with a bazillion other
people, me and a friend took of Friday morning at 6 with our
kayaks to take a more relaxed look at the tall ships from our small
ships (I just learned that we were mentioned in a breakfast radio
show when we were passing the radio station).
Never before a paddle in the harbour was that easy. For the first 3
hours there were hardly any other boats (power boaters sleep
long), and later the cops and coastguard yelled at everybody to
obey the speed limit of 5 knots.
The kayak perspective proofed to be perfect to get great looks at
the tall ships. At noon we pulled out. By then the harbour was
loaded with power boats and sail boats of all sizes.
Today I have to work, but tomorrow morning will see me on the
water again..... Looking for the Tall ships from my small ship.

Cheers

Ulli

I too, love looking at tall ships from my wee boaty. It must be really
wonderful to paddle amongst so many at once! There's one who's
homeport is nearby (Lady Washington - at Grays Harbor), and whenever
she's in town, I love paddling around her, admiring the woodwork (she
was built in the traditional style), and watching the crew scramble up,
down, and all around the rigging.

Lady Washington is also equipped with a blank-shooting cannon, and when
I'm around, her captain enjoys shooting me out of the water (I will not
be intimidated! ;-)).
