IMHO the tall ships are fascinating because their manufacture and
operation represent the highwater mark of human achievement.  No one
today has to know as much as or be as skilled as the shipwrights,
captains and able seamen of Nelson's navy.

Today, we all specialize and are interdependent.  Back then a relatively
small number of men working together -- without power tools, electricity
or steel -- were able to travel the globe in large, capable ships.

Those who have read the O'Brian or Forester books know what I am talking
