Ok, I admit it, I really enjoy the Survivor series. So, spray me with
a Super Soaker. :-p

What I would like to know is, if any of you other Survivor viewers have
similar thoughts (or plans) about setting up similar types of challenges
(games) in a group trip? (they look like fun to me :-) I expect there will
be heaps of miniature versions of Survivor trips with challenges for prizes
(maybe not a million bucks but how about a good bottle of Cabernet: :-)

Cheers,

Jackie (who wants to go play games in clear, blue, warm water like that)

One is going on right now in New York City at the Downtown Boathouse.
The game is to survive the mobs that show up every weekend looking for
their free kayak trip in the embayment or to the Statue of Liberty.
More and more, old timers, regulars at the Boathouse, are dropping out,
leaving a hardcore but diminishing group of volunteers still hanging
around to work with the crowds.

I ran into one of the oldtime regulars near West Point yesterday. I
mentioned the Boathouse scene and he cringed. He now lives upstate and
is happy to be away from that downtown scene.

Maybe this isn't the type of survivor game that you had in mind,
Jackie. No prize, no rules. But, believe me, it is a survival game.

Uh... no. I'm not advocating setting up challenges that are tedious and
not fun to participate in. I'm referring basically to a "summer paddling
camp for adults" (though on a very small scale) that looks like great
fun with competition (play) where paddlers participate in games such as
underwater treasure hunts offshore with the use of kayaks, archery
competition with crooked arrows, or even turn rescue training into games
such as which swimmer can retrieve their offshore kayak and get back to
shore first after they have selected their rescue gear of choice
(a paddlefloat, a sponson, neither etc. :-) Not something I would want to
do every trip but it could be added fun to a special-occasion, once-a-year
trip. Seems like a good way for people to get to quickly know and enjoy
each other on a group trip. I haven't seen the entire series but from
what I have seen, it seems the people on the island are having fun and
enjoying themselves. The title seems to come more from who makes it
through the voting process. Otherwise, it's Club Med dining on rats. :-)

Cheers,

Jackie (who will pass on roasted rat)
