Yeah, its tough in Australia alright. 2 weeks ago we pulled a 3 foot sea snake out of Sydney Harbour at the Manly Pier. Well we didn't actually touch it we called the marine biologist down from the nearby shark aquarium and he picked it up after we coaxed it onto the beach, explaining that it was sick. But he did say that it is extremely deadly so we were well advised not to have tried to handle it anyway. Dave Winkworth's trick will take b bit of beating though.
