Hi,

with two or even more person in the water this is the only possible
way I can imagine right now to deal with such a situation without
taking a huge risk for yourself. If you have no life guard training and
know the tricks and techniques how to handle panicking swimmers
it might be also the best way to deal with a single person.
I did a course more than 10 years ago, and at the end I wasn't sure
if I would be able to handle a desperate victim. A final test with a
"drowning" waterball player brought us back to reality -most of us
made it barely back out of the pool-.
After such a long time without practicing these skills I am pretty
sure that it would be very hard or even impossible for me to rescue
somebody with bare hands, and for sure there would be a pretty
high risk for my own life. Wearing a pfd, having a kayak, and other
floating stuff might make it easier, but still a though job.

I hope we will get good and lots of feedback in this topic, since it
could happen to all of us that we are unexpected confronted with
drowning people. Then it might be very helpfull to have at least
played with such a scenario in theory and have a plan or strategy
in mind.

Looking forward to learn more

Ulli

BTW: How many of us have some kind of first aid training? Pulling
people out of the water might be only the first step. CPR could be
the next step. Do you think you would be able to do it? I think I
probably should fresh up on this. My last first aid /CPR class was
also at least 10 years ago.
