>From my journal - a few days ago. Written as if to someone... ~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~ ..Yesterday, I was feeling a bit down, so I decided to take my kayak to lake Quinault. It was sunny down here at the coast, but when I got to the lake, there were low clouds with "fingers" reaching down into the trees of the surrounding mountains, patches of fog reluctant to leave the lake's surface, a beam of sunlight here and there. The water was calm and glassy, only disturbed by the occasional moments of light rain. I love it when it's like this at the lake, and the feeling matched the quietness of my mood. After a little episode of rain, I would paddle along the shore, underneath the trees. The sound of water dripping down through the branches, and finally reaching the water around me, was sweet music indeed. The smell of trees - sitka spruce, douglas fir, cedar, moss-covered maple - was intoxicating. A bald eagle swooped down through the fog, and passed over me no more than four meters above my head. We made eye contact. For a moment, the contact was deeper than sight. I paddled slowly - for hours, miles, and through a little patch of forever. I came home last night still a little sad perhaps, but there was a lightness that wasn't in me before - still floating in the fog and sunlight of that magical place - still breathing the richness of the trees. Who needs therapy when there is this planet? ~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~ Melissa (just a visitor to this planet, but trying to enjoy my stay!) ps: Was I wearing my PFD? You decide. ;-) *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced/forwarded outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: PaddleWise_at_PaddleWise.net Subscriptions: PaddleWise-request_at_PaddleWise.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Wed Aug 23 2000 - 12:16:08 PDT
