Greetings once again from your 12th Annual Southwestern Canoe Rendezvous Committee. It is now less than six weeks until the Southwestern Canoe Rendezvous(TM) 2000 coming up October 6 - 8 2000 on Lake Raven at Huntsville State Park just north of Houston, Texas. This is the largest on the water paddling show in the nation and the Houston Canoe Club is proud to sponsor this great event. Check your mailbox!!! The 24-page Rendezvous registration brochure went in the mail this week and you should be receiving it any day if you are on our mailing list. Once again, here's a list of some of the highlights you can expect at this millennium event: **Over 90 CLINICS scheduled for beginning through advanced paddlers taught by a world class lineup of instructors including Bob Foote, Gordon Black, Karen Knight, Ken Fink, Andy Corra, Wayne Horodowich, Peter Kennedy, and Wayne Dickert. **TEST PADDLE the newest canoes and kayaks on the market today! We've already had tons of interest from manufacturers and local retailers reserving ad space in our Rendezvous brochure and/or exhibit space at the event including Dagger, Mad River, Mohawk, Cobra Kayak, Kiwi, Perception, Camp Paddle, REI, Sun & Ski Sports, Coastal Paddler, Southwest Paddlesports, Canoesport, Southwest Canoe and Kayak, We-no-nah, Islander Kayaks, Prijon, Desert Sports, NOC and Kent Ford with more coming everyday. **Back by popular demand - the SILENT AUCTION! Many items will be in the silent auction while the higher priced items will be auctioned in a live auction at 12:30 Sunday afternoon. **Also back by popular demand - the TRPA USED CANOE & KAYAK LOT - come score a great deal on a used boat and help river conservation efforts in Texas. This used boat lot was a huge success last year. **T-SHIRT SALE - we've found a whole stash of Rendezvous t-shirts from previous years and we'll sell them at a separate table this year. Plus we'll also be selling the 2000 t-shirt - sure to become a collector's item. **NEW EVENT - the "CARDBOARD CANOE" RACE for kids on Sunday - they'll build and then paddle their own creations made out of a big sheet of cardboard (parents can help) **Rendezvous will host the ACA FREESTYLE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS on Saturday evening - see the best freestyle canoeists in the country compete under the lights for national honors. One of the big considerations for most people attending Rendezvous is accommodations. Although the Houston Canoe Club has 42 camp sites reserved at Huntsville State Park, they will go fast.
