Sorry, I have no idea if my reply was forwarded to the list after I clicked
Reply and later forwarded it to Bob Denton. Somehow Scott got it. Anyway,
here goes.

If you'd like to reply via the back channel we can get an idea of how many
people might be able to make it.

I suggest you provide:

Name (s)

# of people

A - Yes
B - Maybe
C - Definite maybe

Desired accommodation - camping or hotel/motel

Point of origin -

You might indicate if you will come just for the 3-day weekend - I suggest
February 17 - 19th, 2001 - to give enough time to recuperate financially and
physically from the holidays - of if you will combine it with a longer
vacatioin. Just to have a vague idea and so we can come up with some
"entertainment."

For example, Bob (Denton) how about some Irish music?

I think America Outdoors will be the best campground. I have a 12 x 12
screen room, a 9 x 16 tent with screen porch, and a VW camper van. I also
have a bunch of other tents.

sandy kramer who is going on vacation starting Friday, 9/1 and will be back
on the 10th.

<< Paddlewise get-together in the winter, possibly in Florida or the gulf
coast, possibly in January or February when most of us northerners have had
enough ice and snow to hold us for a while. We'd also sort of agreed that
we needed to be able to set dates far enough ahead of time to allow for
 some some flexibility.

Anyone have any thoughts or feelings about the idea? Anyone interested in
going? What dates work for you? Does anyone feel like being a local
 resource person? >>

Glad you remembered.

Monday, Jan 15 is Martin Luther King's birthday
and
Monday, February 19 is Washington's Birthday

I would suggest we try and narrow the dates to either of those weekends

no further holidays until Memorial day on May 28.

There's a really nice private campground with its own beach in Key Largo.
King's Camp. 305-451-0010 tent sites are $20 (I just called and they said
same price both seasons). It's small, but very pleasant, next door to the
Flea Market and the Marriott Hotel.

America Outdoors is also a very nice place, but there summer rates are about
$35/night and they go up to about $50/in the season. They are much larger
and have a mini-restaurant.

Both campgrounds are on the bayside (as opposed to the ocean side) so the
sunsets are spectacular.

Hotels are outrageously expensive, but I know this cute little motel - not
fancy but plenty of conch charm - also in Key Largo. 305-451-3576 (if you
call, tell Rosemarie that Sandy Kramer who coined the phrase "conch charm at
its best" for them referred you).

I convinced my English cousin to check out of the Holiday Inn or Howard
Johnsons in exchange for conch charm. They left a sterile $150/night hotel
room for a delightful $115/night suite with kitchen, screened-in porch,
private sandy beach, grill and use of a canoe. The rooms are about $55 in
the summer, not sure how much in the winter, but I have a feeling they said
it didn't change.

If Key Largo is agreed upon, I will contact Frank and Monica Woll of Florida
Bay Outfitters 305-451-3018 and hook up with the Paradise Paddlers as a
possible hosting group.

PeterO met some of the Paradise Paddlers on the Long Key beach cleanup.

I live about one hour north of Key Largo, but my ex-husband lives on a canal
in Sexton Cove, Key Largo. He's into saltwater fishing and has a 22' Mako
(no promises, but he might be willing to take someone out as long as expenses
such as beer and gas are taken care of!).

He recently bought a 20' pontoon boat and when I said, "Wow, some party
boat." he said, "whenever you want to invite some friends......"

Anyone else (Scott? Bob?) care to be on the welcoming committee?
