I was interested to learn that silk has the lowest thermal conductivity of any natural fibre. THis has not been my experience. I have a silk T-shirt which is the coldest garment I own. It feels colder than going naked. But as the layer under a wool shirt, it is ideal as it keeps off the scratchies, and is so thin and non-absorbent that it is impossible to get wet while wearing it. Beats heck out of cotton, anyway.
