I was interested to learn that silk has the lowest thermal conductivity of
any natural fibre.  THis has not been my experience.  I have a silk T-shirt
which is the coldest garment I own.  It feels colder than going naked.  But
as the layer under a wool shirt, it is ideal as it keeps off the scratchies,
and is so thin and non-absorbent that it is impossible to get wet while
wearing it.  Beats heck out of cotton, anyway.
