Just wanted to let the list know I arrived back safely from a successful
double crossing of the Queen Charlotte Straits, including a seal landing
on Storm Islands #3 (there are 4 islands in the chain or so, #1, the
lead one, was too rough, and # 2 - well, the attempt was "interesting").
Awesome weather, _lots_ of wind and challenging paddling given my bad
back (Duane could have done these crossings in his sleep - and I don't
mean his dreams). :-)

Will post my log entries off my mini lap-top PC, on PW this week for
those interested, when I get a chance and a new battery (my wife and
younger daughter have left a note on the computer telling me to stay
away from the monitor, kayak stores and late nights for the week during
our holidays - so will have to post in secret later, and catch up on PW
posts).

PS
Left Port Hardy at 10:00 pm at end of trip and recuperating this past
afternoon - Saturday night. Full moon whole way down, open road, no
cars (go Doug go). Stopped at a mountain view point on way down about
2:00 am Sunday - a couple of hours ago or so now. Boy oh boy, I've seen
some good meteor showers in my days living on Vancouver Island, but I'll
tell you, I saw a streak tonight that completely blew me away - beyond
belief. I'm still agasp. Lit up the whole sky, that one meteor. What a
universe we live in - comes with its own fireworks!

I should add that I also stopped at the lookout at Seymour Narrows part
way down, as it was close to slack tide as I passed by - and fully
night. Three cruise ships went through the treacherous waterway, all lit
to the max. like gargantuan floating Christmas trees. Very inspiring in
a different way (some people sure live in a different universe than me
with my cheap can't-be-seen-sea-kayak and little pup-tent!). Gotta run,
err, sleep - spouse thinks I'm having a bite to eat. BFN

BC'in Ya
Doug Lloyd (whose glad to be home safe and sound with his family, and
thanks all the well-wishers who e-mailed me mostly back-channel before I
left, mission accomplished, Storm Islands behind me)
