Thanks for the info on the Eric Stiller book, Ralph. I made the mistake of
putting Paul Caffyn's book down and have to get back "into" it.

I brought in Distant Fires by Scott Anderson to post the info to the list.
The ISBN is 0-938586-33-5 and it's a $12.95 paperback. The library call
number is 797.122 Ande

The publishers

Pfeifer-Hamilton Publisher

seem to handle quite a few of these narratives as they "advertise" a few on
the back pages and even have an order form

Bering Bridge - The Soviet-American Expedition from Siberia to Alaska by Paul
Schurke

Quiet Magic by Sam Cook
Up North by Sam Cook

The author was in his early 20s at the time he and a friend did the 1,700
mile trip and the book won a 1991 Best Book for Young Adults award and yes,
he did have a Duluth pack.

I found it to be an easy read of their trials and tribulations - the Grand
Portage, conditions, camping....

The Minnesota-York Factory trip was loosely based as a replica of the 1930
Port-Sevareid trip.
