Help anyone? My paddling buddy is going on a paddle trip to Thailand and
wants to know about portage wheels.

Hey, can you post a question to the PW site asking which kayak wheels would
be best for use on a double Klepper folding kayak? I would like to get a set
of wheels for when Barry & I take our trip.

I don't have an absolute answer to this question, but I was intrigued by the
ACA newsletter I got last night that has some new fangled wheel thing
endorsed by ACA, that is wheels and loading assist also. Has anyone tried
one of these? Guess I'll have to look more closely at the ACA site so you
can see a photo of it. Has what appears to be 20" bike-style wheels on it,
a frame that looks like a stretcher (like the kind bodies are carried on).
Very interesting. I've used those carts with small wheels on them and they
may be better than nothing, but not real good if you've got a sandy
traverse.

Farrington (sp?) Chariots in Santa Rosa, CA make great kayak carts. They're
worth the fairly steep price. The big wheels and aluminum frames are
overbuilt will last forever. They are on the web.

Good luck,

Tom

I noticed that thing, too. They also have an ad in the latest issue
of C&K. Looks like a lot of overkill to me. That much more weight to
transport, and from the photos cumbersome to use. It's an "officially
licensed" product, whatever that means. They do have a website listed,
http://www.goeztop.com/ and they're located in Tampa, so I assume it will
work on sandy beaches.
There's nothing particularly portable about this.... You really
need a car to use it.

I have a Klepper Aerius II and I use a Primex kayak cart with it. The cart
was recommended to me by Peter Schwierzke of Klepper West, a dealer who
specializes in Kleppers as well as other folding kayaks. I don't know if he
has a website but Klepper West is at 6155 Mt. Aukum Road, Somerset, CA
95684-0130; Tel. (530)626-8647; Fax (530)626-6893.

The Primex cart is the only cart I have ever used so I cannot compare it any
others but I am quite happy with it. I often go out alone kayak sailing and
I can handle the Aerius II easily with it by myself. It does o.k. on soft
beach sand as long as I am on level sand or pushing downslope to the water.
Going uphill on a dune is a struggle.

It's quite sturdy and I like the way the wheels come off and the way the cart
folds up flat for storage. It fits easily inside the Klepper and also inside
behind the seat back in my Feathercraft K-1.

The Primex cart is superior to the Klepper factory one in a lot of ways.
The tires are fatter and it stands up easier without collapsing. It is
slightly bigger when packed into your kayak but only slightly so.

I still have my spare Primax cart for sale. Only used twice and has the
optional seat accessory. If anyone is interested drop me an e-mail.
