Cigarette Racing Team in Miami, FL is a manufacturer of these high powered
boats. The term Cigarette Boat has come to be used to describe this type of
boat regardless of who manufactured it. Similar boats are made by Wellcraft
Scarab, Fountain, Donzi, Formula, and lots of others. From the perspective
of a kayak, it's best to stay as far away from them as possible. Most are
operated by people who don't have the knowledge and skill to handle them
safely and responsibly. There are a bunch of them on Lake Lanier north of
Atlanta where we have a sailboat. Sometimes I'm afraid they don't see me in
spite of a 40' mast that's very hard to miss.

Someone I know who has a fairly low intelligence/net worth ratio contacted
Fountain and told them he wanted the fastest boat on the lake regardless of
what it costs. He had no powerboat experience except with small
inboard/outboard ski boats. He told them to be the fastest, the boat should
have a top speed of 95-100 mph. They said they could definitely build such
a boat. It would be 41' long and have 2 675 hp engines, and would cost just
under $400,000. They also told him that they wouldn't build it for him,
because they didn't think it was suitable for someone with his level of
experience. Gotta give 'em some credit for that!
