Help! I am relatively new to kayaking (2 years) and have recently purchased an entry level boat (Old Town Nantucket). In all the reading I have done there has been no real discussion on padding in a kayak cockpit. I have seen lots of different types of pads advertised; i.e., thigh pads, hip pads, seat pads, etc. I have already modified the seat in my Nantucket so that the back of the seat does not extend beyond the coaming of my cockpit. I have added pads to the seat (ethafoam) even leaving an area right down the center of the seat open for my spine. My dilemma now is how to install or where to install thigh pads. When I have been out in the past I usually brace myself in the boat by pressing my knees up against the side/top of the cockpit edges. MY KNEES CAN'T TAKE IT MUCH MORE! I would appreciate any and all comments on the topic of how to brace yourself and how to install padding for such. And anyone with a Nantucket I would really like to hear about how you have outfitted your boat. Pics are welcome. Thank you and happy paddling.
