G'Day, I've been paddling a couple of years and consider myself a novice but believe the cowboy rescue is intuitive and can be more effective than the paddlefloat rescue - given the right cockpit. It can also work in moderately rough water. I learnt and practised this this the first day I went out in a kayak just by looking at the boat no instruction. In a wide cockpit boat such as the Klepper with a fully detachable spray skirt - it was a snap even in quite rough water. In a Klepper with the partially detachable spray skirt - it was very difficult indeed in rough water. The paddlefloat rescue in skilled hands in those conditions would have worked with both kinds of spray skirt but would have been a bit slower. All the best, PeterO *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced/forwarded outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: PaddleWise_at_PaddleWise.net Subscriptions: PaddleWise-request_at_PaddleWise.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Fri Sep 08 2000 - 02:03:28 PDT
