I just read a report on some drowings on the coast. Here is a summary....

Hurrican Florence is sending in the waves to the coast of North Carolina
and causing more drownings. At least two people drowned when caugt in rip
currents.

A 23 year old man, James Carl Frazier, is missing after he "fell from his
kayak. USCG helicopters and other EMS units are searching for him. People
went to his rescue when a wave swept over him and he disapeared. The
Carolina Beach Fire Chief said there was little hope that Frazier would be
found alive. "A friend who had been kayaking earlier said Frazier, who was
married at the beach on Sunday, refused his offer of a life jacket."
Frazier said, "I don't need it."

The full story is online at www.wral-tv.com.

I think I have read of at least 9 drownings at the beach this summer and
several more on the local lakes. The two
paddle boats deaths involved people not wearing PFDs.

Later...
