Had a good paddle today ahead of Hurricane Gordon, wind was 10-15, dark skys, light rain and 2ft swells except for the navy vessels wake which were 3-3 1/2ft. Four paddlers showed up at Fort Clinch, Fla. and decided to go for it, before the storm knowing it could be rough coming back. Crossed over the 1/2 mile inlet to Cumberland Island and saw 12 of the wild horses grazing on shore, paddled 4 1/2 miles to the ice house dock and ate lunch in the boat house shelter and did a quick tour of the ruins and saw three more horses and five wild turkey and one armadillo. Put the kayaks back in the water with a slight drizzle and had a easy paddle back in calm water crossing the inlet with little current. And of course ate at Sonys BBQ on the way home.
