Hi everybody!





Last wednesday I was out paddling by myself. It was a bit windy and some waves
(about 2 feet tall, 3 feet length). I had the wind in from the stern, or just
about, and was enjoying the surf. Then as I paddled closer to the shore ( a
steep cliff) I experienced the first odd thing, I have previously only read
about it. First the wind, which should have been blowing parallell to the
cliff-face suddenly seemed to blow from both the side and the rear, and also
the waves was sort of reflectet from the shore, and I was suddenly in rather
chaotic waters with waves comming from "everywhere". I was a bit shaken up,
but since I was close to my turning point, which is a small bay right inside a
small sound, I paddled on and rode it out, expecting the waters to be calm and
quiet on the other side of the sound. I was wrong. As son as I paddled through
the sound, the wind hit me full in the face! The sound is about 10 m. long and
steep on both shoresides. I turned my head to look at the waves comming from
behind, and saw that they were still comming from the earlier direction, with
no signs of letting up. I did a horizontal 180, and headed out of the sound
again, and still had the wind right in the face. 





What happened here. Can anyone explain how the wind can blow from two opposite
directions at once,parted by a 10 m. sound?
