It is kind of unfair to compare one given foldable with another given hardshell and then make a generalization about the whole class of boats. There are going to be hardshell kayaks slower than your K-light and a foldable could be made which is faster than your arctic tern. Even if the K-light was exactly the same shape as the Arctic Tern it could be some reason other than the soft skin which makes the boat slower.
