This just goes to show how vital sharks are to the ecology, culling the weak and infirm. This was reported to be a 8-9 foot Bull Shark (Zambezi). They are terrified of kayaks and hate the taste of tourists. It is unusual to find them in the Intracoastal, which is brackish water, but Bulls are known for their tolerance of brackish water. There have only been 25 shark attacks this year. cya >>> Retiree Thadeus Kubinski, 69, was swimming with his wife Wednesday when he was attacked in five-foot-deep waters off their dock in Boca Ciega Bay, off the Gulf of Mexico near Tampa. >>> *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced/forwarded outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: PaddleWise_at_PaddleWise.net Subscriptions: PaddleWise-request_at_PaddleWise.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************
<<This just goes to show how vital sharks are to the ecology, culling the weak and infirm>> Hey Bob - Be very careful abou that "weak and infirm" stuff! This guy was only 69 years old - the prime of his life! Those of us in the over-65 age group look forward to many years of vigorous paddling at his age. :-) Bill Hansen Ithaca NY *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced/forwarded outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: PaddleWise_at_PaddleWise.net Subscriptions: PaddleWise-request_at_PaddleWise.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************
