It's a slick little item, waterproof, and runs on 2 AA's so it's quite small and efficient. The 3 LED array lasts forever (or at least 30 hours) but does not make a focused beam so, while it's light is hard to look at directly, (and thus might be good as an expression of one's presence to local motored boats) it does not make much of a spot on the ground for the finding of things. It is, though, adequate for reading chart and compass at night and for reading in the tent and, I am quite tickled with its size and thriftiness as re battery usage. The alternate bulb unit is halogen and focused but is a separate piece that must be carried separately and can not conveniently be switched to on the water if there are waves or spray about. Since my primary uses for a light are defense against night boats and for chart, compass and tent use I am very happy with it. Mine is made by Princeton Tec and may be called the Matrix.
