There's a public boat launch directly under the bridge that crosses the sound. Also, Pea Island Nat. Wildlife Refuge is nice. It's about 30 minutes south. There's only one launch site, it's very visible on the side of the road (the only road there is) so you can't miss it. There's many other good locations in that area, but those are the only two that I can speak to directly. That area is very similar to my home waters, which is about 1-1/2 hours north. It's the Plumb Tree Island Nat. Wildlife Refuge and surrounding area at the lower end of the Chesapeake Bay. Some of the CPA paddlewisers would know better, but I believe it's also very similar to parts of the Eastern Shore which is the land mass to the right of the Bay.
