At the risk of getting too far off topic, paddling wise, I was wondering if Ewe could give us a quick list of your repertoire of Dutch Oven specialties. Eye, and m'eye fellow kayak camping companions would greatly appreciate it! tina gpwecho_at_juno.com wrote: >Ahhhh, fall at last here in bayou-country and I'm catching up on >water-time. <snip> I broke out the DutchOven for a feast one night of >Sage Dressing w/Loin Chops. Alright guys - Bread Pudding and Other B/S Got Me Thinking: I love to cook and I am not talking about grilling on the Barbecue, which I too enjoy - like most. I believe there is nothing more satisfying (well maybe a quiet cup of good coffee in the morning) than sharing a great meal and glass of wine under the stars with the folks you just finished paddling with for the day. Sustenance for the Body, Mind and Spirit. I end up doing quite a bit of the cooking at home (because I enjoy it) and am always trying out things that I think could work on the trail and or take out at the end of the day. My basic menu has changed from a package of oriental noodles, some chop sticks and a cup of tea combined with munching on GORP, Hard Salami / jerky and Cheese with crackers to something much more palatable and just as easy to carry and fix. Something available at the local grocers that I don't have to buy in expensive freeze dried form at a specialty retailers. Specialties and Interests: * Asian: Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and others (Indonesia, Singapore, Malay) * Southwestern: Mexican and other Latin American Foods * Fish: Any kind - Fresh or frozen * Soups: Livening up freeze dried / instant soups for greater appeal and energy. Would anyone like to share recipe's, ideas, etc. on individual meals when you are only supporting self and creations for a group of four to ten paddlers. I have a number of books on outdoor cooking to include a book by Linda Daniel; Kayak Cookery. Kayak Cookery has some excellent recipes and ideas on selecting, packing, transporting and preparing meals while on a tour. I also believe that we collectively could write volumes on the subject if we gave it any thought at all. I am not as experienced a paddler as many, if not most, on this list. But I can eat with the best of them. Anyone interested? Who knows, if someone was to volunteer, Jackie might even let us consolidate the info and post it on Paddlewise.
