Wes' post got me to thinking about how often I had gone paddling this last season, and that got my competitive streak riled up because while he had gone on many more trips, I think mine were of higher quality <grin>. I've been injured the last five or six weeks, so no paddling, and I am really suffering for it, even though I've been doing fun stuff (clearing brush, multitudinous home improvements, fashioning a Pygmy double kayak, etc.). Even so, I've been thinking about paddling a lot. So my list of trips includes a quality factor, mainly controlled by how much I recall from the trip, and the degree to which I have a longing to be in that place again. A troublesome facet of this reflection is that I had some bum companions this last year ... one guy who is a prototypical wimp (I say he has a "can't do" attitude), and a couple of others who could have served as archetypes for a passive-aggressive personality profile. Funny how those personality traits don't really become apparent until day four of an extended trip! Anyway, my total was 52 days on the water, more or less. I don't keep a log, so I'm sure I missed some day trips. All but two of those trips were overnighters, with most trips running a week or so, and one of two weeks duration. The majority of those days I was with one other paddling companion, though the two-weeker involved six people, and another of the weeks I had two companions. Thirty-eight of the days were in BC, split between Barkley Sound and the Charlottes. Distance traveled would be a total guess, probably something like 400-500 miles or so. 'Round here, the water does not get hard, so our "season" is not over ... and I've got that new little tent I'm itchin' to try out ... maybe I'll go out and listen to the blooping of distant shotguns while sipping some steaming coffee, as freighters slip by. So, I'm not done yet, Wes! But, to make your 125 days, I'd have to cheat and use some days from 2001!
