hi, i've paddled a bit in fog... early morning river stuff... yet the occasional bass boat blows by at high speeds. sound is sufficient warning that i am way up on a bank when they pass by. another time i saw/heard a cargo ship passing over a short span of tunnel on the south end of the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel near Norfolk, VA. As that ship headed towards the harbor, a Navy sub came out of the fog and headed for the sea. so all that gets me to thinking about crossing shipping channels in fog... and i suppose that a really bad situation would be for two ships to be passing by. that could be a very nasty situation if a kayaker thought that it was but one ship. what other strange things should we think about with respect to crossing shipping lanes in fog? bye bye bliven *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
