I have had the same feeling as Joan and Dave in much of what Duane has
written but sometimes I think he has something worthwhile to say and welcome
him on this list. I too would feel a lot better about him if he dropped the
putdowns and name calling. I just assumed that he is under thirty and maybe
looking to stir up us old farts a bit. I don't have a lot of experience in
bulletin boards or chat groups (or whatever this is called) other than with
paddlewise, but what little I have had in a skiing group and a whitewater
group makes me think that Duane would fit right in there. Name calling says
so much more about the sender than those it is being directed at. It takes
the young a while to learn that.

Criticism of the content of what someone says to me is only the back and
forth that is necessary to better understand a subject and I really enjoy
that aspect of this group.  From what I have seen the best explanations
eventually win out (or should I say "become clear" to avoid the competitive
connotation of "win"). I have a lot of respect for the wide range of
expertise on so many diverse subjects to be found among the members here.
 I hope no one feels that I am intentionally stomping on their toes when I
play the devil's advocate and postulate an alternate explanation (as I'm
sure to do many times again if I stay on this list, it seems to be my nature
to question everything).
