I would like to change this quote a little bit because I think it could 
be a good guideline using the following words:

Some paddlers can do these things (hurricane crossings, dropping 
down waterfalls were originally mentioned). Some paddlers can do 
less.  But they all still have limits which they are required to know, 
or else be considered reckless.
