[Paddlewise] Need Substitute for Patuxent 19.5

Finally got around to ordering a Patuxent 19.5 from CLC only to find out
 that they discontinued it!

Any recommendations for a relatively fast S&G that will accommodate a 6' 230
pound paddler with size 11 feet? Not looking to race, need something for
3 -5 day excursions primarily on inland lakes and streams.

I've built four boats form CLC and highly recommend the company. Look carefully
at their comparison chart , I've paddled most of their boats and find that the
boats are as they describe them. Also monitor their web site forum.
http://clcboats.com/ All that being said, the Pax series are not cruisers.
They are fast, the new Pax 20 is a missile, but not that comfortable for long
periods for big people, and turning and storage are not their strong suit. I'm
210#, 6-0. The Chesapeake series are great and easy to build; good speed, good
handling, very comfortable and stable. The West Rivers are a little faster,
better handling, very comfortable and a little less stable initially. The
Chesapeake LT's are similar to the Chesapeakes but a little less volume, and
slightly narrower. I'm torn between the Ches 17 LT and the WR180 for my next
boat. I believe the 17 and 17LT are their best selling boats. I paddle either
a North Bay XL, a great play boat, or a Tred Avon triple (party barge). My
daughter (10 3/4 yr. old, 5-3, 120#s) paddles a Chesapeake 16, and best friend
(6-1, 230#) paddles a Chesapeake 18. See http://jamesgrantmusic.com/yak.htm
he's done a good job of documenting his boat building "experience". He helped
with his boat and had close to zero woodworking skills. Still has close to
zero, but doesn't subscribe to this list, so don't tell him. He's a damn good
composer though.

Hope this helps
Chris Beckman
