 Jody,

There is a campground just off Sound Ave in Greenport. I have never stayed
there and I'm not sure if they're open off-season. My Yellow Pages gives
their name as Eastern Long Island Kamp Grounds and their phone number as
631-477-0022.

Again, I don't know the off-season conditions, but there is camping at
Smith Point Beach on the south shore. Smith Point is essentially between
Moriches Bay and the Great South bay, both of which offer somewhat more
"protected" paddling than the Sound. I have paddled a lot on Moriches Bay
and the eastern end of the Great South Bay and would be happy to answer
more specific questions.

Since time is short, you can call me at work at 631-344-2378 or at home at
631-758-3284 with specific questions.
