Finally something I can contribute - This I thought about as I just bought a
Necky Telkqa Kayak and had the same problem.

My solution:

1) Take two boards - Attach together with straps and nails - To make a V
shaped
( Book like ) thing.

2) Attach the rod holder to it ( The wood )

3) Attach the board/book/rod holder to the boat via bungee cords

4) Pad everything not to hurt the boat

5) Now you have a detachable - Rod holder - Flag pole - Light stancion -
Whatever

6) If you want, I will sketch the thing and post it in the files section ..
