Have just recently purchased a Honda CR-V with the factory roof rack
installed. Been having some difficulty determining

what I would need to purchase to be able to transport a kayak on the CR-V. I
called the Yakaima customer rep # and they told

me they do not have the 2001 CRV in there database and could not tell me if
the factory rack would interfer with their setup ie.

Q-Towers, clips, pole etc.

Any CR-V owners out there. What kind of setup do you use to transport your
kayak?

Thanks

Jeff,
If the car looks the same, there shouldn't be any difference of the roofline and
rack. The only thing that "interferes" with a rack is an A-pillar mounted
antenna. Factory racks have light load ratings, usually 125lbs (including the
Xterra), so if you're hauling multiple plastic boats, I'd skip the rail riders
(that attach to the rack vs. gutter) and go ahead and get the Q-towers. You can
slide the factory rack crossbars out the way. Factory racks are pretty
useless, BUT if your transporting no more than 2 fiberglass kayaks, the
railriders may be adequate. The height of the CR-V makes hully rollers a good
idea.

Please let me know how you set it up and how you like it. I'm caught between
the CR-V and the Subaru Outback for my next car. I think the Honda would have
lower maintenance/ownership costs.
