I know a few of you on this list think I came down on Duane a bit too harshly. I certainly didn't intend to. I did, however, intend to come down "hard". There is a difference. Many of you have never had something go seriously wrong on a trip, a small outing, or even an organized event -- so perhaps don't understand the psychology that occurs for those of us who have (and the protracted soul-searching) -- especially for those of us who don't hold back their strong convictions from public forums. The ocean can be a place where the school of hard knocks easily dispenses its graduating documentation, especially when the hammer has come down hard (if I can mix metaphors). If you have received your diploma, you join the ranks a select group of paddlers (no elitism suggested) for whom it is difficult to ever feel understood by other paddlers. I will, however, refrain from judging (thumping?) any one else again on this list, or sharing my thoughts in that regard. Doing so, fosters and engenders too much controversy and bad feeling. Also, mean people suck, and I don't want to be labeled as such, either. I will, when applicable, share recommendations with the list on incident reports that come my way, and comment on threads where the individual involved has solicited commentary. Beside, I'm struggling enough with my own "myopia" right now (but will make sure not to share my health struggles with the list again). I apologize for that too. Please, no rejoiners that involve my name. I'd like to keep a low profile from now on, and simply paddle in peace [well, my idea of a peaceful paddle may differ from yours :-) ] Peace man.
