Mike: I pulled the books from the library and you are correct. The author that I was referring to is Tim Severin. The book on the curragh is "The Brendan Voyage". His book with descriptions of old style boat construction is "In Search of Moby Dick - The Quest for the White Whale". I recommend both of these books as well written and informative without being boring. Both good reads. Mr. Severin is a historian, adventurer and prolific author who has written twelve plus books of the same type as these. I wish he had written on one of the kayak building societies and how they lived in such hostile environments and developed their kayaks and equipment. If someone can recommend another author on this subject, please let me know.
