Several years ago I fashioned a pair of homemade hip waders out of a pair of neoprene boots and cylinders of waterproof lightweight nylon which I joined together with shoe-goo at the boot-fabric junction. A short loop of elastic and a small carabiner allows them to be clipped to my belt. They are very "compressible" and easy to slip on and off while in my kayak. They take up little room when remove. I stow them in front of my seat and paddle in wool socks, putting the waders on again only in preparation for landing. The waders are functional around camp and take the place of rain pants if needed. I carry no rain pants as my cagoule or long floppy rain jacket overlaps the waders allowing lots of air circulation to carry away perspiration. In this way I'm quite comfortable both ashore and on-water. I found that I suffered a serious sense of humor failure if using shorter waterproof boots, e.g. knee highs when I'd kneel while loading or unloading my kayak and catch a wavelet in the top of the shorter boot. If I were to build another pair today I'd spring them off the Chota's as the base... Jim Vermillion -- .........................................................
