My Mirage Rack lasted only three years, a friend's lasted 6 months less, and a third local paddler has had to repair his twice. And no we didn't exceed the load limits. The method of attachment is just not a long lasting one - the inherent movement in the rack stresses out the surrounding metal of the truck. I primed and painted and sealed the holes I drilled and it still rusted away the metal. Maybe they just not good near the ocean. The local kayak shop pulled the Mirage racks from it's inventory and started selling custom welded racks that are just as streamlined but can handle a ton more weight, can handle sidebar loads and do not shift around while driving.Additionally, out of the truck they are great racks too and cost less than the Mirage Rack. I routinely carry six kayaks using two sets of "J" Stackers and the "BOMB RACK" pickup rack is now older than my original Mirage rack and not showing any age to date. If you want the Mirage Rack badly I know where you can get two of them (minus side rails) real cheap.
