We, www.aldercreek.com, recently changed the BSK from Basic Sea Kayaking to Basic Skills Kayak. We are adapting a BCU style format in our education department which promotes the *basic* skills to be learned in a GP <general purpose> kayak. It's not until level 3 do you choose a particular vessel. <ie. sea, surf, or whitewater.> This seems to make alot of sense as a GP boat is very resposive to strokes, tilts and such. The student is not fighting a long, sometimes stubborn boat in that early learning process. Rudders, skegs, hatches, long paddles, etc. are not part of the early learning. KISS. just 2 centavos worth. steve ----- Original Message ----- From: <timbre_at_best.com> > At 08:20 PM 12/28/00 -0800, you wrote: > > Kathleen, what's a BSK certificate? > > BSK = basic sea kayaking. covers paddling technique, safety, sweeps, > rescues, the very basic basics. the standards vary from school (or > instructor) to school. > > btw i have used arnica gel too and it helps for some stuff, but not for > this wrist thing i have, sadly. > > kcd *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
