Sailors' gloves work well, as well.  You can get fingerless gloves with a 
pleather palm for grip, and you can get the same with fingers.  Gives some UV 
protection to the back of the hand.  Gill (UK) makes excellent gloves --- 
seem to be the glove of choice in the sailing community in Annapolis, 
Maryland, where, in summer, you can almost walk across the harbor by hopping 
across sailboat decks.  Big sailboat decks.
