1 A worm-drive impeller mounted via 2-way tape and a two-piece bracket
(very small) is attached to the hull, as water flows past the impeller the
impeller spins, radiating a magnetic pulse. The pulse is received by the
control unit that converts the signal and reads out the speed of the boat
over the water.

2 cost is about $180 USD + shipping. Available from SpeedTech _at_ speedtech.com

3 Warning: Tether the impeller mount to the boat or it is possible to knock
the impeller off when you hit a rock or another boat. At $18 each for the
impeller and the mount they aren't all that cheap and yes, they do sink.

customer that made them work for their money.
