hi folks,

do the neoprene booties keep your feet dry ? or warm? or both? iwould
think, like a wetsuit, that they would keep them warm, with a thin layer of
warmed water next to the skin for insulation. sometimes (various reasons,
like edging w/o a spraydeck, paddling w/o a spraydeck, or lifting the
spraydeck to dump the accumulated drips off and missing, and dumping it in
my lap (what a thrill), i get a bit (maybe a cup) of water in the bottom of
the boat and inevitably it attacks my feet. no "proper" kayaking shoes yet.

do you guys like/recommend the chota booties?

thanks

kcd

I actually prefer the 5.10 Nemo highs. Very nice boots which have
"stealth" rubber on the bottom, which provides a much better grip on wet
surfaces than the Chota product.

I love mine, for cold/deep water, snow, mud, etc. Better rubber would be
nice, but then so would a Porsche beneath my kayak rack. ;-)

If all you have is a sprinkle of water I'd live with it. I had my first trip
with dry feet in the winter last weekend in my new Chota mukluks. I just love
them. I would like a bit of a firmer sole because it was hard to step on some
things but ANYTHING as comfortable as those are to paddle in is worth its
weigh in gold when the water is 37º. I have the Chota booties I've used for 2
years and the only time I have wet feet is when I have to step into water
over the top of them to get into and out of the boat. I haven't worn a hole
in them as I have other shoes I paddle in. The fiberglass eats through the
outside of the heel of the shoes.
Good brand and I think good value in my experience.

I got past that by using a pair of Vasque inserts made for hiking
boots. They are stiff enough to make walking over rocks a pleasure and the
instep and arch supports are great.
