No, that's not a brand name in the title line, but there's really no reason
not to properly fit a kayak with an anatomically correct/unique set of
seat/pads.

If you're in the Bay Area, there are a few good sources of closed cell foam.
WARNING: not all foams are created equal. Some are too hard, some too
soft and some juuuuust right. One source for good foam is the kayak
outfitter that specializes in All Things British. It's located on the
Peninsula, and it's got an alliterative name (like Kayaks and Kiwifruit, or
Paddles and Prostates, something like that) They've got The Good Stuff, and
they're v. helpful.

Then, take a look at this website:
http://kayakfit.com/
or, better yet, go through recent archives at the Guillemot Kayak Builders'
bulletin board:
http://www.kayakforum.com/cgi-bin/Building/index.cgi

There was a most extensive discussion about gluteal nirvana there quite
recently. Once you're done, you'll know it. The boat will handle better,
and you'll be comfortable for long periods. Tip: thigh support is
important! Make your seat long enough.

Also, mounting it with marine velcro allows you to trim your boat a bit by
moving your bulk. Be sure to mount the velcro the right way: sand tends to
accumulate in the feltish side, so it's best afixed to the seat cushion,
hooky side on the hull. (Feltish? Hooky?)

Best of luck,

Mark
