However, I've heard this used in the South to describe stopping on the edge line of an eddy. Rather than turning, facing upstream, and stopping, you instead slowly spin a full circle. Gives you a little breather, take in the scenery, and maybe lose a little distance if you're too close to the boat ahead of you......
