The always amusing Sandy Kramer posted some expressions yesterday that she had gleaned from the paddlewise list and asked if any of us had any that we could share...so Sandy here is mine. Born and raised in Texas I grew up with this "boating" word...Some years later while living in California, I used it in a game of scrabble and was almost hooted out of the room for making the word up. Fortunately one of the other players knew some Texans and she phoned them to see if I was pulling her leg. Sure enough it was confirmed by the use of the word in a sentence, that indeed "you could have a heck of a time in the water if your boat TUMPED over." Is this word used anywhere else but in the South???
