I just added another photo story to my paddling destinations:

http://www.frii.com/~uliasz/wayfarer/ruby_canyon.htm

Last weekend I paddled 25 miles of Colorado River between Loma, CO and
Westwater, UT through Horsethief and Ruby Canyons. Not so bad weather,
a few boats only, low water, some class II rapids - just enough
excitement for
my skinny Patuxent 19.5.

What are the special considerations when you take a wood sea kayak down a
river with whitewater? I'm building a CLC now and would have never
considered taking it on a river with class II.

Next thoughts:

On Saturday I paddle with my Sirius almost half an hour behind a defence,
sorry I donīt know exact name for it. Artificiall rapid, maybe a better
word?
Whatever, the river gots a normal highwater period and behind the defence
are several fast changing middlesized waves, various streams (behave little
bit like tidal race) and small whirls. By massive highwater hell starts up
there!

Why paddling Whitewater with a longship? Itīs a really good test, you could
examine your technicals skills, have some fun. Itīs a good simulation for
anything. Learn to trust your feeling, by hip edging and supporting strokes
...
A Seakayak behaves like a truck, but thats what you have to learn and to
accept. Just a great test, if you manage whitewater with a seakayak, you
just catch the next step on your way to be a "seakayak god" or guru, high
priest....

But the best is, you see very impressive where are the limits on your
special kayak? Where are your limits?

try it!

bye, Jochen
