Not many details. I just got off the phone with my wife, who read a short obituary to me from this mornings paper. Here's what I have.... This guy lived in Poquoson, VA - my home town of only 15,000 residents (but boarders an area with 1/2 million) Name - Garland Reese Age - 49 Member of Colonial Canoeist Club Was the clubs president for 3 years, and the Trip Master Was an Expert Certified Instructor (not sure how that relates to the BCS ratings, etc) Died this past Friday in a kayaking accident in Richmond (no big lakes in that area, but some WW, so I suspect he was WWing) If I get a chance this morning, I'll go on-line and check the Richmond Times to see if I can find an article. Parts of it are pretty benign, but there's also a section with rebar and other debris in it that it's a pretty good idea to avoid. However, the local paddlers seem to have a pretty exhaustive and detailed knowledge of this, and so it's hard for me to imagine that any of them would be there deliberately. ---Rsk Rich Kulawiec rsk_at_rockandwater.net *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
