I thought that I'd rewrite my question. I'm making my kayak andI'm not too concerned about cosmetic appearances and figured I'd shed off a bit of weight by losing the gel coat on the deck. I did a test piece and repeatedly stabbed it with a knife and it barely made a mark. If I did that to gel coat it would have made an ugly mess. My only concern is that I know that Kevlar is more sensitive than other products to UV rays and I'm wondering if tinted resin with UV protection additive is enough protection. - Bill Crane *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Someone recently posted concerning weight of new kayaks. I just got mine and the weight -- 54 pounds (no skeg or compass; day hatch) -- is per specs.
