Hi folks -

I am considering a trip (maybe 10 days) exploring the coast of Acadia
National Park. Hoping to camp along the way, possibly with a night or two
in an inn. Does anyone have any information on this area, camping, or
lodging information? What about weather - is the start of hurricane
season a reason to avoid September?

  Get a copy of Dorcas Miller's book "kayaking the Maine Coast" Back Country Press.
It has about the best discussion of Kayaking the Maine coast to date. Tamisin Venn's
book "Sea kayaking along the New England Coast" AMC Books, is also good but not
as up to date. Parts of Acadia are very exposed to the the wild wild ocean so care
must be taken. Also there may be some outfitters that could help you if you are so
inclined. At any rate hope you have a great trip- hope all this snow is melted by the
time you want to come.

In addition to the information below I will make 2 other recommendations.
Look at the book "Hot Showers" Maine Coast Lodgings for Kayakers and
Sailors;
and become a memeber of the Maine Island Trail Association. (207-761-8225).
If you are planning a lates summer trip (fog season) bring a compass.
If you have any specific questions let me know. I know you will have a
great time!
