Dr Fluno, who was a member of the group that developed Deet (USDA, I believe), says that adverse effects resulting from it's use are greatly exaggerated and he considers it perfectly safe to use. As he is the only entomologist I presently know, I have not been able get a second opinion. But I will contact my brother in-law, who does research at the Nat Insts, to check into human reactions to Deet.
