Yes, we were underdressed for immersion. But it was a warm day, and this incident took place near our point of maximum exposure for the trip, which was mostly on channels and small lakes. It's not always reasonable to optimize for immersion when other factors are involved. You have to take other considerations into mind, such as, especially in my case, the potential for overheating. A number of factors have to be taken into consideration, including water temp, air temp, planned trip, other weather conditions, degree of remoteness, alone or with someone.
