Peter asked: <snip> Does anybody know if anybody makes a solid float with more buoyancy? <snip> I don't think there is a bigger one that I know of. Certainly a lot of the small home made ones that folks bring out to practice on my paddlfloat workshops find theirs thoroughly inadequate. The best one I've seen was carried by one of the guys on the Storm island trip. It was an old faded orange seat cusion/emergecy floatation device for runabouts. It had a pocket and straps that could be utilized for placing the blade in to, and was a great camp cusion/chair. it was a little unwieldy on the rear deck of his kayak however. Looked like the Beverly Hillbilly of sea kayaking.
